Job Description:
Steam Boiler Operator (Santa Monica) EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE A High School Diploma is required. An Associate of Arts Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. The competent attendant shall be a person who has at least 2 yrs. of experience with boiler operation. Boiler operator license is a plus. Individual must have experience performing troubleshooting and repairs on chillers, HVAC system pumps, valves and other plant utility systems. Must be able to read blue prints and have working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. (CMMS) GENERAL DESCRIPTION Operate or tend stationary engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, and air-conditioning equipment, to supply and maintain steam or heat for buildings. Observes boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and make repairs, such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings. Test and treat boiler feed water, using specified chemicals. Maintain log of meter and gauge readings and record data, such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed. Will perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance on equipment and systems in the manufacturing, laboratories, general facility, utility and office areas. Coordinate maintenance activities with area supervisors. Order spare parts, replacement parts, solicit vendor quotes and oversee vendor/contractor work within your area of responsibility. Document work in a cGMP compliant manner. This position requires shift work. REQUIREMENTS A High School Diploma Minimum two yrs. relevant experience in Bio-Pharmaceutical, petrochemical, packaging or power generation industries Demonstrated abilities and/or evidence of training in the repair, operations and troubleshooting of boilers, stationary engines, generator and related equipment The ability to read blueprints Good communication skills, verbal and written Good computer and keyboard skills, proficient with standard business software RESPONSIBILTIES Operate automatically fired boiler to generate steam that supplies heat or power for building or industrial processes Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of boiler operation to ensure that boilers are operating properly Test boiler water quality or arrange for testing and take necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels, and make adjustments to maintain required levels Activate valves to maintain required amounts of water in boilers, to adjust supplies of combustion air, and to control the flow of fuel into burners Monitor and inspect equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices, and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems Adjust controls and/or valves on equipment to provide power, and to regulate and set operations of systems or industrial processes Conduct PM and Corrective maintenance on equipment Maintain a safe work environment; work in a safe manner following all safety SOP's and wear Personal Protective Equipment as required Maintain accurate records keeping equipment and systems cGMP complaints at all times Work Independently and make sound judgments regarding work methods and tools Proactively support the Corporation's, Company's, Department's and Personal goals and objectives Maintain your technical Training Profile current with no delinquent notices Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
