Position Posting Position: HVAC Technician Reports to: Director of Engineering & Maintenance Background: Glenstone, a museum of modern and contemporary art, is integrated into 200 acres of gently rolling pasture and unspoiled woodland in Montgomery County, Maryland, less than 15 miles from the heart of Washington, DC. Glenstone strives to provide visitors with a unique experience through the seamless integration of art, architecture, and landscape. Established by the not-for-profit Glenstone Foundation, the museum, known as the Gallery, opened in 2006 and provides a contemplative, intimate setting for experiencing iconic works of art and architecture within a natural environment. Glenstone presents extraordinary outdoor sculptures and installations within a landscape designed by Peter Walker and Partners and selections from an art collection of significant depth and breadth in the Gallery building by the late Charles Gwathmey of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects. Admission is always free, and visits are scheduled to encourage an unhurried, intimate engagement between the viewers and their surroundings. Glenstone is now in the midst of constructing a second museum building, The Pavilions, measuring 170,000 square feet and designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners, as well as a new public entrance, an arrival gallery with a bookstore, a café and an expanded landscape. These new facilities will enhance the visitor experience and provide significantly more space for exhibiting Glenstone’s superlative collection of post-World War II artworks. Job Purpose: This position supports Glenstone’s mission by performing skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of a variety of HVAC equipment. Additionally, as member of the Glenstone engineering team this position is required to perform a variety of maintenance tasks including but not limited to cleaning, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The primary work hours are five days per week, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, plus the ability to work extended hours to complete projects and/or respond to after-hours emergencies on occasion is essential. Essential Duties: • Value and consistently apply Glenstone's Core Values and Mission to all aspects of working at Glenstone. • Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, track and create work orders as well as manage parts inventory. • Performs routine inspection of all environmental systems and areas served. Make recommendation to supervisor of any repairs or required adjustments found during inspection. • Utilize CMMS conduct scheduled (preventive) maintenance on all mechanical plant. • Utilize CMMS to order parts, compare pricing and pick up supplies as needed. • Install, maintain, and repair equipment and machinery which may include some fabrication. • Assists in the operation, maintenance, replacement, and repair of (but not limited to) chillers, cooling towers, pumps, RO/DI water filtration, clean steam plant, humidification/dehumidification systems, AHU’s, FCU’s, VAV’s, VFD’s, DOAP’s, cool rooms, ultra violet water sterilization, sand/media water filtration, building management and control systems and related equipment. • Operate all plant to maintain very tight parameters within all art spaces. • Assist in the coordination of maintenance and operation of ozone generating equipment. • Must be able to read technical and architectural plans. • Assist in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of other skilled trades areas. • Plan and coordinate installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trades. • Operate and maintain tools and equipment common to various skilled trades. • Observe all common safety practices. • Coordinate, supervise, and monitor work of outside contractors. • Demonstrate a commitment to Glenstone’s Safety & Sustainability Policies by adhering to all environmental, safety, & health regulations, procedures, and goals. Additional Responsibilities: • Ability to work independently without supervision. • Develop a strong sense of responsibility for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of all systems. • Ability to work extended hours to complete projects. • Respond to after-hours emergencies when required. • Operate a variety of light and medium equipment as necessary (with training) such as forklift, Bobcat, and elevated work platforms. • Fill roll of duty mechanic at least one day per week. • A variety of professional training is provided and mandatory, including but not limited to, Confined Space, Fall Protection, CPR, Hot Work, Lock Out Tag Out. • Maintain records on required and completed work. • Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: • High school graduate or equivalent. • Minimum of five years of experience in a similar position. • Knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices, and of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications. • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance. • Proficient in Microsoft office and CMMS application (currently Maintenance Connection) • Valid MD, VA, or DC driver’s license. • Journeyman or equivalent HVAC license. • MD Refrigeration certificate • Possess excellent communications and customer service skills. • Maintain a high standard of professional appearance (uniforms are provided). Physical Requirements: • Ability to access all areas of buildings, grounds, public and “behind the scenes” exhibit areas located across a 200+ acre site. • Capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor. • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement (which cannot be corrected with appropriate devices), which would interfere with ability to work. • Able to safely lift, carry, and load 40 pounds a distance of 20 feet. • Able to access heights and confined spaces. • Able to remain outside in all weather conditions. • Able to remain on feet for long periods, climb stairs, bend and stoop. • Able to operate a motor vehicle with either a standard or automatic transmission. • Physical capacity to endure exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous machinery, restraint devices and hazardous chemicals. Use of protective clothing or equipment may be required from time to time (goggles, masks, gloves, braces, hats, gowns, boots, etc.). • Must be medically able to wear appropriate respiratory protection.
