Job Description:
About the Company: Serving all of the Metro NY/NJ/CT area, Hughes Environmental Engineering is one of the finest and most well-regarded commercial HVAC contractors in the business today. Respected for their technical expertise and business integrity, Hughes services clients such as office buildings, manufacturers, technology firms, banks, and food distributors. Since founding the company in 1935, the Hughes family has provided quality careers for hundreds of HVAC professionals, and today's team is even more committed to continuing business growth well into the future. 2010 promises to be its best year. Statement from Frank Hughes, President: "We have always been very selective in choosing the best customers to work for. They appreciate great HVAC service when they see it, and are happy to pay for a job done right and done on time. So here is the company's simple formula: Carefully select the best customers and then be the best company to work for. This is why the best HVAC talent in this area goes to Hughes." About the position: Hughes has tracked annual growth at a stable 8-10% each year since 1999. This steady approach opens up a brand new position for an HVAC service technician approximately every few months. Recently, a significant increase in service and installation business has opened permanent positions throughout the company. As a service technician at Hughes, your core responsibilities will include: • Troubleshooting package HVAC systems, split refrigeration systems, and some heating applications. • Performing contractual preventive maintenance tasks on an ongoing basis for our contract customers. • Installing new and replacement HVAC/R systems including start up. • Occasionally working overtime to complete a service call, or working an occasional Saturday to meet a customer request. "Why Hughes?" - A dialogue from a Service Technician's viewpoint: "We work year round without any slowdown in the off-season. It's always busy and I get 40-45 hours routinely. Then in the summer there's plenty of OT to go around." "I started out at a vo-tech and then worked for a few years for a smaller shop before Hughes hired me and presented me for membership into the union. It was a no-brainer. I should have come to Hughes Engineering right from school." "Hughes Engineering hired me and got me into the union. I am guaranteed a raise of $1.00 per hour every six months. That would have been like pulling teeth with my old Service Manager!" "There are enough technicians here that I only have to take the weekly standby duty 2 or three times a year." "Hughes Engineering takes care of the techs here. The average truck here is only two years old, and they back you up when you're out there with the customers. Many of the managers used to be technicians here, so they know what we're going through." "I live over an hour from the office, but it's well-organized enough that I almost never have to drive there. I go right to my customers every morning. We all get cell phones and a van to take home, and I mail my paperwork every week." About the Process: Hughes respects the privacy of individuals who contact us confidentially. Your information will not be shared with any third party and we will not contact employers or references without your permission. Since many industry professionals are not ready to make an immediate career change, Hughes Environmental Engineering gives you a choice. If you would like immediate consideration, send a resume or contact Hughes at the address below. You will then be contacted by phone or mail, and will receive a complimentary informational package about Hughes sent to you in advance of the interview. Weekend and evening interviews available.
