Job Description:
? Responds to emergencies and/or service calls, drives to site, greets customer and troubleshoots malfunctioning systems/equipment to determine the nature of the problem. Handles more difficult service calls to ensure service satisfaction. ? Locates and diagnoses problems, assesses extent of repairs and describes solutions and associated costs to the customer. Provides a description of diagnosed problems to customer in terms that can be understood with options, as possible. ? Provides cost estimates for residential and some commercial HVAC services, ensuring that the customer is offered the best value and service available. ? Obtains customer approval for repair and corrects problems. ? Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to prevent equipment failure by cleaning air handling systems and reheat coils, monitoring and calibrating air handling systems and replacing filters, motors, fans, belts, etc. on systems. Repairs, replaces and adjusts vents and duct work. May clean air ducts to maximize efficiency and improve indoor air quality. ? Performs repairs of complete systems to include repairing, calibrating or replacing controls, switches, thermostats, transformers, gauges, wiring fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, piping and other functional components of the system. ? Performs other related service repairs to include repair of electrical malfunctions and installation and repair of equipment, accessories, pipes, fittings and fixtures. ? Checks condensation drain line to ensure that it is free of debris and draining properly. Treats and/or clears clogged drain lines. ? Provides interface with American Home Shield or other warranty companies, as needed. ? Prepares sales quotes for replacements and coordinates installation scheduling. ? Orders and picks-up parts, as needed. ? Contacts supervisor or dispatch to discuss any problems on the job, communicate call completion or order any parts that may be necessary. ? Maintains and fuels vehicle and stocks the service truck with adequate parts. ? Transports materials and tools to the job site and provides proper accounting of tools and materials. ? Completes all required documentation on services, explains guarantees/warranties and collects, records and delivers fees to the office. ? Installs, repairs, replaces or cleans refrigerant lines, fans, appliance vents, smoke detectors, humidifiers and grills, as appropriate. Brazes in freon lines and pressurizes with nitrogen. Evacuates and/or adds refrigerant in units, as required. ? Provides product usage information to the customer for proper operation and preventive maintenance. ? Tests repairs and installations by starting unit and checking pressures with gauges to ensure proper operation. ? Ensures that all HVAC repairs and installations are accurate, serviceable and that materials used and workmanship meet the requirements of applicable technical/safety standards and regulatory codes. Makes any modification needed to ensure proper installation and air balance. ? May order materials for jobs. ? May promote service agreements and provide assistance in financing service costs. ? Provides on-the-job training and support to assigned lower level technicians. ? Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area. Completes installations by thoroughly cleaning and removing all trash from the installation work site. ? Observes all safety and Company rules and regulations in the performance of duties. ? Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS (in coordination with technical training modules, not all-inclusive): ? Understand the proper application and safe handling for new, replacement refrigerants used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems ? Understand piping requirements, sizing, insulation, pipe support and piping loops and how to properly dehydrate refrigeration systems ? Be familiar with all facets of air conditioning installation including planning, piping, brazing, wiring, pump down, pre-start checks, start-up and safety essentials ? The overall concept of the heat pump, its operation, benefits and disadvantages, operating economics, and servicing concerns ? Understand how systems are designed to cope with changing loads ? Understand basic refrigeration troubleshooting, diagnostic tools, troubleshooting, logic, information and charts ? Understanding of the procedures used when replacing compressors that fail due to motor winding burnout, mechanical failure, system contamination, and troubleshoot refrigeration system problems that lead to compressor failures
